
Jim Liggett |
Jim
Liggett has the distinction of having more wins than any high
school coach in California state history. Jim's teams have won
league softball championships in 19 of the 28 years he has coached
at Carlmont High School and were Central Coast Section (CCS)
Champions in 1982, 1984, 1996, 1999, 2001 and 2002. Jim was
selected by the California Coaches Association as "Softball
Coach of the Year" in 1996. The San Jose Mercury News
selected him as "Softball Coach of the Year" in 1999,
2001, 2002, and 2004. In 1999, Jim was inducted into the San
Mateo County "Sports Hall of Fame."
Jim
attended the University of California at Berkeley on a baseball
scholarship. He signed a professional baseball contract and spent
seven years in the Baltimore Orioles organization, the last two
years at the Triple A level. He graduated with Honors and a Master's
Degree in Education from San Jose State University. While working
as a teacher at Carlmont High School from 1967 until his retirement
in 2003, Jim was also the Carlmont Varsity baseball coach from
1967 - 1974. Over the past eight years, he has worked closely
with the Belmont and San Carlos youth softball leagues, conducting
softball clinics and speaking at many coaches clinics. Jim became
the Varsity softball coach at Carlmont in 1976, where he currently
continues his winning tradition. |
